It Never Rains But It Pours

It was actually nice here today. Mild, sunny and pleasant until I went to feed the crew this evening and found Raven hobbling along on 3.5 legs. There is a puncture wound on the inside of her right hock, and it's swollen up like half a softball. She was just fine this morning, but I think she might have been jealous of all the attention that Brego is getting. The site is hot to the touch and she's only putting weight on the toe. I hosed it down for 20 minutes tonight, and we'll try to get the vet out on an emergency call tomorrow. Someone on the local horse boards recently had to have their gelding put down due to a similar injury, so I won't be sleeping well tonight.

Penguin, I am SOOOO sorry! Poor girl. Best of luck, hopefully she will be fine once the inflammation goes down.

I'll be thinking of you all day.

And poor you! Very stressful, I know. Hope this heals up faster than you expect. It does seem that things (good or bad) come all at once, doesn't it? Will hold good thoughts for you and Raven.

Yuck! Everybody seems to be having horse sicknesses and injuries right now. I sure hope yours get better soon and nothing gets too serious. And please don't send any of that bad mojo my way, thank you very much.

Heck of a good idea, AHS. I just assumed that it was something out in the pasture, but something may well have been turned up in the paddock. We pulled all kinds of crap out of there when we first moved in. Thanks so much! Should have thought of it myself, but hey...not so smart sometimes.
