Dirty Girl

My mother will attest to the fact that I have never tried hard to stay clean. Jeans and dresses were soiled with equal abandon, despite all admonishment from parents and older siblings. Now that I pay for my own clothes I try to be more careful by having a drawer full of farm rags while preserving everything else for my interactions with the real world. This distinction doesn't come naturally to me, however, and the voice in my head that says "you're wearing the wrong clothes for this" is barely audible. Today I installed a new pump in our fish pond and went into the shop for some WD40 when the waterfall hose resisted its inevitable attachment to the pump nozzle . I sprayed a couple of drops into the hose, spread it around with my finger and was just about to wipe that finger on my pants when the little voice screamed "YOU JUST BOUGHT THESE LAST WEEK!!!" and then passed out from the effort. It sounded a bit like my mom.

Today's other chores included the purchase of a full-face fly mask for Raven (it does not have pink ears), which does seem to keep her a little calmer when the mosquitoes come out. We also bought a 1-acre bug zapper, which is going nuts as I type. It's hanging between the goat and horse paddocks, striking terror into the hearts of both Tonka and Raven. I'm not sure whether the mask or the fear has quelled her pacing for the night, but I don't really care either way.

I _so_ wish it had the pink ears. It sort of looks like a halloween getup to disguise your horse as a pig!

That is a cute fly mask! Both my boys hate the flies too, it drives them nuts. However getting a fly mask on my one is like near impossible. He has a fear of plastic/paper bags and somehow I think he puts fly masks in that category. Like putting on his blanket is a big deal too when it makes it's swooshing noises being put on. Such a freak he is.

They all have their idiosyncrasies -- just like us humans. Raven ripped one of the ears off her new mask today, so I may have to replace it with a pink one...

No more updates??
I'm sure you think no one reads your blog, but I do! lol I followed the link you put in one of your comments on Fugly's blog. I've been following your blog for a month or so now and I enjoyed reading about your horses. I've wanted a horse for as long as I can remember but my family is non-horsey, so I have like, zero experience. I'm trying to learn as much as I can because as soon as we're financially able, my husband and I want to own a couple of horses and I want to be a good owner. I've learned a lot about founder and horse ownership in general from your blog. I'll miss it if you quit! :)

Haha, please disregard that last comment from me!! I have NO idea what happened. I've been refreshing your blog occasionally since, well, this post and nothing has been coming up! I even re-typed your URL and tried Ctrl+F5 and nothing. This comp has some issues and likes to make a fool of me....
Glad to see there's a ton of new posts for me to read, though! :)
