When I scratch Raven in a satisfying spot (whithers, elbows) she bends her neck around so that she can put her upper lip against my arm or shoulder or chest and then she wiggles said lip back and forth like crazy. If someone else is scratching her when I am nearby she will stretch her head out to me to do the same thing. Raven is not a horse who bonds easily with people, and I find this sweet quirk heartening and endearing. After eight months at Farcical Farm we are finally getting the impression that she feels comfortable and content here.

Oh wow, that is the best...pic plus happy story!
That's so great! I'm glad your beauty is feeling more at home!
I wonder if it's like the "lick tic" that other animals get? My bowling ball kitty would lick the air or herself or anyone in reach if you scratched that one spot on her back!
(Hubby and I went to the shelter to meet that dog, and she was gone. Odds are either the owner came and got her, or, more likely, someone adopted her! She was so great, I hope she got an awesome home, and I'll keep on searching. Although that shy male was still there, and when he sniffed my hubby's hand, he thumped his tail. Good manners are so sweet!)
Oh, the memories you are conjuring up. I was thinking as I biked over the Lions Gate this morning about this blog entry. I used to love when Sam did that curl up his lip thing. Then I was thinking how nice it would be to have a horse again, and then I thought how it's somewhat dangerous to read this blog:)
Lovely to watch an animal begin to trust you.
AHS: Not my pic, unfortunately. My camera battery is dead and the charger is hiding.
Brandy: Glad to hear that your girl got out of the shelter, but sorry it wasn't in your care. I bet that sad male would make a fantastic friend. Watson was like that when we got him, but with training and guidance he came right out of his shell. He is very bright and eager to please, and just a little tentative of new situations. I think he is probably a lab X aussie, but who knows?
BJC: You do live awfully close to southlands...
Awww, I think you're right and Raven is just starting to come out of her shell and trust you. In my (not very vast) experience it takes a long time for a mare to trust you. :3
