I am simultaneously happy and sad to announce that Pepper left this morning for his new home in Burns Lake, BC.* He will be living on five acres with three horses, five cats, an equally fetch-obsessed younger border collie, and an eldery aussie adopted from TDBCR two years ago. More importantly his new folks are around most of the time. Pepper is very dedicated to his people, and I did not want him to spend his remaining years waiting for someone to come home. Overall it is a dream placement and I am thrilled.
I'm normally just happy to see foster dogs go (no matter how great the dogs are they tend to interrupt the routine around here), but Pepper really got under my skin. Getting to know him and to assist him on his way was a pleasure, and he will be sorely missed.
*Most FFF readers from the US probably don't spend much time thinking about Canada's vastness. Burns Lake is at least 12 hours north of Vancouver at a good speed...about the same distance between our shared border and northern California. Once there Pepper will be in the middle of the province of British Columbia and about 1/4 as far north as Canada reaches. It boggles the mind.

Yay for Pepper! Yay! Yay! Yay! It is always both good and sad when a foster finds their (hopefully) forever home.
Having sent many trucks up and down the Alcan, I at least had an idea of where Burns Lake is. Couldn't have told you exactly how long it was from the boarder or anything, but had a rough idea. :)
Good for Pepper. May he live long and prosper.
What about the TRACTOR?!? We're waiting....
amussfis = a breed of dog, very similar to the Australian Sheperd, that is particularly adept at tracking all of mud season into the house
Oh, very cool news.
I can't even really fathom how big the US is, much less Canada. I would love to drive across Canada one day. Such a big empty place, compared to how many people are packed in to the US.
undustme: the cry of the horsewoman's neglected house.
I'm so glad to hear he got a good home with lots of action and people who will love him. You're a good person for helping find him his forever home.
Sweet picture of pepper there wioth the BB. I bet you'll miss em DP. I am very happy that you made the decison though.. he'll pine less and dog smile more. You did a wonderful thing for him, fostering him to this.

I'm thrilled to hear Pepper has such a great placement - it sounds like the perfect fit! I hope Pepper makes a smooth and speedy transition to his new home.
PS. I love Funder's definition for the verification word. I can never come up with anything remotely funny!
I taught in Fraser Lake for a year when I first came to BC. That's about an hour's drive away from Burns Lake, and by Northern BC standards, is just around the corner. If you had said Mister Pepper was going to Fraser Lake, I would have been concerned, since so many dogs there live their life chained outside the house. But, Burns Lake is an entirely different mindset, for some reason. I'm thrilled for Mister Pepper, and grateful to you for giving him the opportunity to live out his senior years in such a perfect situation. Heart goes out to you, though. Missing a dog that has managed to find its way under your skin is hard, even when you know it's for the best.
