False Spring

It is analogous to false labour in my mind, and it has been happening in Deroche over the past four days. We have had sun (while most of the Lower Mainland is shrouded in fog), blue skies and daytime temperatures of 10 °C. I have been working outside in a t-shirt, Raven appears to be coming into her first heat and the trees are covered in tiny buds. I suspect that it will come to a tragic end quite soon, but we are all enjoying it while it lasts. Unfortunately I didn't bring the camera out with me today, but here's a shot from last year's false spring, which occurred in early February.

Wow! Spring, even a false one, would be good right about now. I drool at the thought of wearing a t-shirt instead of rain jacket and rain pants, even if it might be a temporary fashion choice:) The fog is so thick here, there's not a glimpse of the water below, passing over either bridge. There are lots of buds out, and most of the snow has melted, and even the temps are staying around 5 above, but a winter-like chill is still in the air.

Is Raven more temperamental when she's in heat?

Enjoy the false Spring while it lasts. I'm sitting here this morning looking out at it snowing, another 2-4 inches coming. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to go out in a t-shirt, if only for a few days respite from the weather this month.

We had our false spring the last two weeks--temps in the 40's, snow all melted, mucky, muddy paddocks--but it got cold again, and foggy, last Thursday. It's hanging in at about freezing, but the overcast makes it damp and seem even chillier.

OT, but DP and the rest of you folks have inspired me: I've started my own blog! Feel free to visit:

I'm doing some backtracking to chronicle my two fillies' growth, and hope to be up to real time training/competition by the time the REAL spring arrives (I'm a fair weather rider). Right now, just baby pics. Enjoy.

quitto = Isn't that the Quapital of Ecuador? Or is it something to help one stop smoking?
