It gives me great pleasure to announce that the hungry boots are dead. Yesterday David pointed out a split behind my right heel, so today I felt completely justified in spending over $100 on a pair of Tack Classics from the Muck Boot Company. A report on their relative appetite to be issued upon their arrival.

Hi! We've had Muck Boots for at least six years now (same pairs, plus the garden shoe a couple of years later) and they're great for warm and dry (unlelss it's REALLY cold outside, 20 F or less). But do watch that they don't rub your achilles tendon too much--because they don't really "break in" with regular use, they rubbed the back of my leg something awful, and after awhile my tendon developed quite a lump! Sort of like wrapping your horse's legs too tight! As long as I don't wear them constantly, they do okay.
This is good news about their longevity -- I feel even more justified in spending so much on them. Do they eat your socks?
Will keep the info about the Achilles tendon in mind. Mine are quite tough already from my Blundstones, but it was a long and hard battle.
Where did you find them? I've been looking for decent books for ages!
Generally, no sock eating- but one thing I love about my Mucks is that, if I am in a hurry (just heard something suspicious out in the barn) I can just jump in them SOCKLESS! they're so comfy, and be out the door in a flash. Wouldn't go all day like that, but for quick chores before work...
I bought them online. There's a couple of retailers around here, but none carry the full selection. An extra $15 for shipping seems reasonable to get what I want. These guys are Canadian, so no duties etc:

Thanks for the info. I have really hard-to-fit feet so I hate buying shoes online, but I'm also sick of lousy boots.
