IICFBD

That stands for International Ice Cream For Breakfast Day, which falls on the first Saturday in February. My boss and his wife host an IICFBC party every year, and I have been attending (usually with David) since 2002. The ambiance is getting more sedate as their kids get older (now 12 and 15), but the novelty hasn't worn off. Last year I sampled the craziest flavours I could find, but this year I stuck to small scoops of chocolate, vanilla and caramel.

After that we saw Coraline with some good friends, followed by lunch, followed by coffee. We all love Neil Gaiman and the movie was pretty great. The company was even better.

When David and I moved out of Vancouver we promised ourselves and our friends in the city that we would make a concerted effort to maintain a healthy social life. We are both deeply introverted people and Farcical Farm could too easily become our hermitage. So far we have honoured that commitment, juggling our schedules and the needs of our animals to make time with friends whenever possible and we never regret it.

Now that's a tradition I could get behind 100%! Great idea.

Darn, I always hear about things too late to participate - the concert that was last night, the play that ended yesterday, and now IICFBD a day after it occured.

Oh well, there's always next year. I think I shall have to mark it on my calendar. And find a place to purchase a container of licorise icecream - my absolute favourite icecream flavour ever.

Wow, like everybody else I wish I'd known yesterday was IICFBD! I made chocolate creme brulee for dessert last night, so I don't feel quite so cheated. ;)

I should try to enjoy Coraline. My ex is the world's most annoying Gaiman fanboy. Whenever I try to read a Gaiman book, I can just hear Mark blathering on about how AWESOME!!1 Gaiman is. Sigh. Gotta let it go!

Are there any sugarless brands of ice cream? I've never been a big fan of creamy desserts, even as a kid, but love ice milks, sherbets, gelato, etc. I like a small spoonful of the hard, melt in your mouth, sweet, fruity texture, followed by a sip of cafe latte. Mm-m-m, developing a craving here. The idea of an IICFBD day makes a lot of sense to me:)

Great that you make time to keep friendships going. Bill and I also lean to the hermit-y side, but always seem to feel good when we've made an effort to spend time with real friends.

woo hoo! i'll have to mark my calendar for that one next year ;-) it's pretty sad the lengths i'll go to to justify ice cream at any time of the day...

i've never read any gaiman, but i'm getting the feeling i need to give it a try - any recommendations to start?
