Literally, not figuratively. One year ago today I took a float plane over to Salt Spring Island to meet Raven for the first time. It was very foggy around the gulf islands that morning, and I waited around the little airport in Vancouver for a couple of hours hoping that my flight would not be delayed until another day.
I had purchased a new (used) little digital camera before the trip so that I could take pictures of Raven, but I was so smitten with her that I forgot to use it between flights. In retrospect I guess I knew exactly what I was in for with Miss Thing, and part of me knows that I took her on to keep her safe. She is the kind of horse who could get passed around a lot. And even though I didn't get any pictures of her that day, I snapped some nice ones en route back home.

Great pictures!
What did David think of suddenly going from no horses to one foundered horse to TWO horses? My husband was kind of flabbergasted yet amused when I told him about Silky.
Beautiful scenery in your pictures. Raven is a beauty and I'm so glad she found a great home with you. I'm a sucker for a mare with an attitude and love to work with them. I'm sure the two of you are enjoying each other.
Some things are just meant to be! :-)
I just read your post a way back about the tail eating goats .. I had a horse who did that! Used to get the manes as well, not to mention the hair on the pigs' backs. :0 thank god he only did it sometimes, but you never knew when he was going to have another attack of hair appetite. It was a bit bizarre.
The only thing that worked - and I don't know if you can get this in the states, but maybe there's something similar available - was some pink sticky gunk called Stop Crib. It's active ingredient is the same capsicum stuff they use in pepper spray and I've never had any problem from covering the horses' tails with it. It's disgusting stuff but easy to smear on, lasts well, and saves the annoyance of tying tail bags on. Worth a try, even if only for a short term fix (I don't know about you but I woudln't be keen on sticky tails all the time)? Of course by the time you read this you may have found the answer XD
Oh, and - gorgeous pictures!
Can you guess my favorite of all the great photos here is the raven (or possibly crow)??
I love stories that end with win-win situations for animals, and this is one of those for sure. Maybe not weepy, but definitely a little misty-eyed here too.
That little digital camera (and you) took some really great shots. I especially like the shadow plane and the steep cliffs. Most of them look like they could be postcards.
